In Orlando two weeks ago, 11,000 data & analytics professionals gathered at Gartner Data and Analytics to learn, teach, and discuss pressing challenges and opportunities facing the Data and Analytics (D&A) discipline… and of course, AI! Regardless of industry, companies everywhere live and die by data these days, so a few Genuine folks went to check it out and see what we could learn.

Here are our big takeaways from Gartner Data and Analytics 2024:

  1. AI is happening, it’s a matter of how and how soon. 75% of workers already use AI to complete routine tasks, whether they realize it or not – and this will increase to 90% by 2026¹. With the amount of data and content to manage ballooning every year, AI is quickly becoming not just a way to get ahead, but an essential tool to keep up. Specifically, GenAI is being centered on two core areas for businesses this year: customer experience and revenue growth.

  2. Data leaders are stepping into crucial business leadership roles. Companies that approach data strategically outperform those that don’t, and as data becomes key to driving business value, Data & Analytics professionals are increasingly called upon to set and lead data strategies that guide their whole business. Importantly, though, many are finding it hard to get buy-in and need enablement from executive leadership.

  3. Get ready for Leadership as a Service (LaaS) and Data as a Service (DaaS). In large part due to the lack of business-wide alignment and buy-in, AI projects tend to have a 50% success rate (10% for GenAI)². To meet this need for data and leadership capabilities, expect to see companies and freelancers offering both GPTs and leadership services (real and AI)  as new products to help businesses–especially small businesses–get caught up or undertake critical projects.

We’ll be going into these trends in more detail with future posts from Gartner Data and Analytics 2024. Stay tuned, and let us know if you want to discuss how any of these apply to your brand.
