What is the Role?

The Director of Strategy will act as a trusted strategic advisor for client engagements by understanding business needs and providing clear and actionable consulting on digital business solutions that may run the gamut from a website refresh, to defining and implementing brand strategy, to providing roadmaps and frameworks for digital transformation, marketing communications, and more.

The candidate should possess excellent business acumen, communication and collaboration skills, with a strong emphasis on synthesizing research and data and translating them into solutions-oriented ideas and actionable insights.  Must be curious by nature, a good listener, able to identify trends and connections, and confident in their hypotheses while open to partnering with others to define a cohesive and informed solution.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in creating holistic frameworks that are innovative, impactful, and measurable, balancing audience needs with clients’ business objectives. Will work across a wide range for verticals, so creative problem solving, holistic thinking, and experience-informed “instinct” is necessary.

A portion of the role’s focus will be team and agency process improvements, as well as supporting agency growth by surfacing opportunities and value to existing clients and assisting pitch teams for net new client acquisitions.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Conduct stakeholder and end user interviews to collect necessary inputs to solve for user and client business needs
  • Leverage strong presentation and storytelling skills to energize and inspire internal and client teams that will gain consensus on unique insights and strategic vision
  • Conduct client workshops that focus on business goal definition, persona and audience content needs, personalization and segmentation and general topic ideation and alignment
  • Provide consulting and insights to clients on how digital marketing /marketing technologies can support audience comprehension and conversion increases and maintain a knowledge of common platforms and approaches that include pros and cons of certain directions
  • Develop and execute workshops and improve on or create deliverables that demonstrate value and solve for core client needs
  • Own senior level client relationships and act as client or project expert for consulting points of view and an outlet for client escalation
  • Serve as end-to-end strategy expert for internal and client teams. Guide strategic phases and serve as a subject matter expert to inform and guide the project through UX/IA, design, development, and post-launch continuous improvement
  • Work with internal teams to direct early requirement definition efforts and approach for building multi-tiered and heavily integrated digital solutions (CRM, PIM, DAM, Analytics platforms)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the value of creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. Actively support and engage in creating and sustaining a workplace that fosters creativity and innovation
  • Participate in agency new business pitches
  • Estimate and execute on work that is defined within project scopes
  • Identify and drive resolution on project risks in all phases of work
  • Suggest and contribute to department and agency initiatives
  • Stay current with the evolution of our core technologies

 

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in a relevant field
  • Experience with one of the Web Content Management Systems and integrations (Sitecore, Drupal, AEM) is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital marketing / website development and strategy discipline
  • Strength in identifying unique insights around complex website initiatives (including multi-site platforms) and business issues (i.e., supply chain) that inform findings, fuel internal briefs, and lead to strategic recommendations
  • Ability to create and facilitate a wide range of client workshops and internal briefs to generate consensus, ideation and direction
  • Comfortable presenting in front of large groups
  • Ability to understand and synthesize business processes and challenges into actionable solutions.
  • Enthusiasm for digital marketing; stays up to date on current trends
  • Strong organizational and research skills; ability to lead by proactively identifying risks and opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to comfortably interact professionally with a diverse group including executives, managers, technical experts, and subject matter experts
  • Experience defining high level approaches to common integration points (CRMs, email platforms, analytics, personalization and E-Commerce)
  • Exemplary team building and leadership skills with ability to develop and mentor less experienced talent is a plus
  • Agency experience working with B2B and B2C preferred

 

What We Offer

  • The right candidate may be located anywhere in the US but must be willing to work east coast hours.  We believe in the power of bringing people together so the right candidate must be willing to travel to the office as needed (at least two times a year) and as needed for clients, pitches or internal meetings.  If the right candidate is local, even better!  We encourage staff to work in our Boston office 1-2 times per week.
