Beauty treatments of the old days?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Today as I was watching tv, I noticed that there are about 5 million beauty treatments in the world. Different kinds of lotions and face washes, make ups. What happened to the old school beauty treatments that our parents and grandparents used. Does anyone know of a web site or a book that has "true" beauty secrets.

I don’t have a book but here’s a few secrets for the beast skin?

GIRLS: What beauty treatments do you do yourself at home instead of spending £££ at the salon?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I do my own eyebrows and all hair removal, for instance.
Oh, and what you do feel you need to get done at a salon, because it’s worth it?

eyebrows, hair removal, any kind fo skin treatment, nails… in fact the only thing I have done at salon is haircut and colour/highlights. That’s expensive enough as it is!! Though I have had eyebrow threading before and woudl consider again as it’s cheap and very cool indeed.

How are people who used to be able to afford beauty treatments manging to look good without them?

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

I understand that because of the poor economey women are cutting back on beauty treatments. (I never had the luxury of be able to afford them in the first place) I was wondering how women are managing to look good without treatments. Everything inexpensive I’ve tried hasn’t worked of course I can’t stick with things long. So what are women doing to turn heads in the recession?

You can always be beautiful without using any of those beauty products.. Being a head turner is just for me being very simple and neat all the time.. Work with the raw materials like getting enough sleep to not look haggard when you go out, eat plenty of vegies and fruits, drink plenty of water to help the circulation of your blood flow, If possible avoid too many application of products on your body cause sometimes these are the factors why you aged fastly.. Go work with beautification from the inside by being as healthy as you can be and I am telling you the outside will look very very good too..

What are your favourite homemade beauty treatments?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

I’m really interested in the whole ‘all-natural’ homemade skin/hair care recipes, what are some good ones? eg. cleansers, moisturisers (face and body), face masks, toners, shampoos, conditioners, dc, hair masks, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Here are my favorite homemade hair and skin treatments.

Hair Conditioner

Lola B. (above) mentioned coconut oil. I use virgin coconut oil on my hair whenever it feels dry or damaged, and it works better than any professional product I’ve ever tried. If the coconut oil is solid, warm it up in the palms of your hands. Spread it through your hair, leave it on for at least 10 minutes, shampoo, and continue with your usual routine.

SCRUBS

Scrubs are good for deep cleaning and exfoliating. I like these:

Sugar Scrub

Combine:

1 cup olive oil
½ cup sugar
2 tablespoons cream or whole milk
5 drops orange oil

Makes enough sugar scrub for the entire body.
Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off.
The glycolic acid in sugar–and the rough texture–makes it ideal for exfoliating and giving the skin a healthy glow.

Coffee Scrub

3 tablespoons coffee grounds (Organic and caffeinated coffee is best.)
1 tablespoon salt

Brew a pot of coffee. Combine 3 tablespoons of the grounds with the salt in a small bowl. (Make this scrub within 20 minutes of brewing the coffee to avoid oxidation.)

While in the shower, work this treatment over the entire body.
Caffeine is often used to combat cellulite.

Corn Meal Cleansing Scrub

½ cup corn meal
½ cup finely grated facial soap

Mix the ingredients together, and store in a closed container until ready to apply. To use, put about 2 tablespoons of the dry scrub in the palm of your hand, add just enough water to make a paste, and smooth onto your face. Massage lightly in small circles. Rinse off with water. Follow with a toner or astringent, if desired.

This scrub is recommended for oily skin with large pores.

MASKS

Masks are nourishing and can help with many issues. Here is one I use:

Easy Kitchen Cream

2 tablespoons fresh dairy cream
1 teaspoon honey

Stir ingredients together well. Put the mask on your face, allow it to dry, and then gently wash off.

Use this preparation for softening the skin and reducing fine lines.

ACNE / BLEMISH HELP

When an occasional blemish shows up, I like to use these spot treatments:

Aspirin Paste

3 aspirin tablets (uncoated)
enough water or aloe vera juice or honey to produce a paste

Put the aspirins into a small bowl. With a pestle (if you have one) or the back of a spoon, grind the aspirin tablets into as fine a powder as possible. Then add the liquid, a drop at a time, until you have a mixture with a paste-like consistency. Use this as a spot treatment for blackheads, pimples, and other acne blemishes. It can be left on for at least 15 minutes or overnight, if desired.

You can make a larger quantity and use it as an overall facial mask on clean skin. Avoid the eyes and mouth. When using aspirin as a mask, wash it off after 15 minutes.

Aspirin paste has an excellent reputation for its effectiveness. Like many other topical treatments, results are most noticeable when the product is used on a regular basis. Apply the treatment at least 3 times a week in addition to your usual skin care routine.

Baking Soda Paste

2 teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon water or aloe vera juice

Add the baking soda to the liquid in a small bowl. Stir to a paste-like consistency. Apply enough to a blemish to cover it well. Allow the paste to remain on the skin for at least 30 minutes. Wash off with cool water.

A baking soda paste gives soothing relief to red, inflamed areas, and it is a traditional remedy for bee stings. Many acne sufferers have used this paste for its soothing, anti-inflammatory properties.

I like homemade recipes because they’re inexpensive and you have total control over the ingredients that go into them. You can find dozens more natural and/or homemade recipes on http://www.oldenbuzz.com/beauty-cosmetics-skin-recipes.html . Have fun!
